After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay.

After looking over my essay, i think I did good on providing evidence. I had a lot of stories that lined up perfectly with my thesis. I think I did a good job with introducing my points and then going into my evidence. I think I may need to do better on my commentary. I struggled with trying to correlate everything back to my thesis and how it makes sense in the long run. I also think I could do better with my vocabulary and my phrasing so that I could get my sophistication point. Next time, I think I need to be better with my timing. I spent too much time trying to make sure my evidence made sense that I almost ran out of time to write a conclusion. I would also like to try and plan better so that I can write quickly and effectively, for example, using a mind map. Summary: Today we went over our essays and reviewed the feedback. We also started our poem posters on adobe. Reflection: Looking over my essay and my review allows me to identify what I did wrong and how i could do bett...

Write about a conversation that changed you.

I always have conversations with my grandma, however they aren't typical conversations. My grandmother just likes to talk about anything, if something is on her mind, she makes it known. On Sundays and Wednesdays she drives me to and from church and she talks to me about anything, sometimes I think she truly just needs someone to listen to her thoughts. She likes to talk about what is happening in life and how that is making her feel. She tells me about how things are constantly changing around her and how that changes her. Recently in my extended family, their have been health problems. Those health problems are related to genetics mainly. This past Sunday, I had a conversation with her about those health issues. From what I gathered, she is very anxious about it but she isn't completely worried, she reminds me that no matter what happens God is still in control no matter the outcome may be. I have heard that multiple times and I believe it, however, it is much easier said th...

Prompt: Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

I've had to write countless of poems. Some had to be haiku's, or free verse, or stuck to a very specific rhyme scheme, but overall, to create a poem I had to plan. I had to plan out what I was going to write about that way I could create words that could rhyme. I have a hard time when it comes to poems that rhyme because I have to stick with a theme. I like free verses because I can write about whatever and I dont have to stress about planning as much. When writing and planning, I like to pick a theme and then write down as many rhyming words that correlate and then actually write the poem around those rhyming words. It is not the most efficient however it works when I don't have anything else to write about. I was somewhat proud of my poems but only because I was shocked I actually finished a poem without going crazy. Summary: Today in class we went over a poem about a writer and an acrobat. The writer of the poem described and compared a poet to an acrobat.  Reflection: ...

Think about your practice with the “So What?” method today. What is one thing you understand about commentary now that you did not fully understand before? How will you apply it when writing your next AP Lang argument?

After completing a "So What?" exercise, I now understand how write a commentary effectively. I did not fully understand how to word everything in a way that made sense without using the terms "the evidence shows....", so having understanding about how I'm actually supposed to word phrases to ensure that I am answering and explaining and that I get the sophistication point. Overall, practicing with writing commentary helps me by making sure I can write why something was written and why it is important to the claim. Summary: Today we went over commentary. We did practice with writing commentary with a claim. Reflection: Going over how to do a commentary allows me to understand why an author decides to do certain ideas when writing. Having practice lets me know what I need to be doing in order to write a strong commentary.

After reviewing and scoring other AP Language argument essays, identify two important takeaways that you can apply to your own writing. Explain what you learned about claims, evidence, commentary, the “so what?” explanation, or the AP rubric. Use specific observations from the essays you reviewed. Write one complete paragraph.

After scoring AP lang arguments, some takeways that I can apply is how I use words and and phrasing. In a lot of the essay's, Ive noticed that they didn't all use formal language. I think I would need to improve my writing so that my writing doesn't look informal either. I also tookaway that their commentary is everything. Some had good evidence but their explanation was extremely weak, this made it all weak. I learned that claims are easy to pick out but some people were struggling with explaining why they picked their evidence. Certain paragraphs that were longer tended to do better because they had a clear understanding of what they were writing, shorter ones seemed like they ran out of time. Summary: Today in class we went on writable and reviewed essays. We graded them according to the rubric. Refection: Looking over essays with the rubric allows me to pick out what is wrong or right. Having knowledge about what other people wrote also allows me to see how to pick apa...
